Pentecost – the birthday of the Church

Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost is the birthday of the Church and at the 9.15am Morning Service we celebrated with a “Pentecost cake”.

The central candle represents Christ our Light who promised to send the Holy Spirit and the twelve white candles surrounding it represent the Apostles receiving the Holy Spirit in tongues of fire.

The seven red hearts represent the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit are shown at the end of the ribbons.

The candles were extinguished “with a mighty rushing wind” and the cake was shared after the Service with cups of coffee.
