We’re saving the last part of Rev. Canon Peter Bristow’s sermon until the July/August Edition so we can share some information and news about this summer’s Feast of Fun:-

‘Feast of Fun 2019’ by Su Reid

Summer is coming! I love the long days, time in the garden, holidays with friends.  But for families working for the National Minimum Wage, or needing Universal Credit, summer is hard.  During term time their children have school activities and good free school meals.  During the summer holidays these things stop.  Families with no spare money simply cannot afford more meals than in term time, or trips to the beach.  There are many such families in Teesside.  I met some of them last summer, when I spent a week helping with Feast of Fun.  They were lovely people – lively, creative children and anxious parents, all in need of friendship and support.

Friendship and support, and good lunches and exciting expeditions, are provided in churches and community centres across Teesside by Feast of Fun. Co-ordinated by Together Middlesbrough and Cleveland, Feast of Fun volunteers give children their summer holidays.  They also give them good meals.  Last year almost 1000 children benefited. This year TMC aims to support 1500.

Volunteers are welcome.  TMC says: ‘ We’ve got opportunities for you to contribute in catering/cooking food, supporting family and children’s activities e.g. arts and crafts, games, music, drama, reading with children. There are so many ways that you can help! Please email FeastofFun@togethermc.org if you are interested.’  Volunteers give their time free, but food costs money, and so do excursions.  Last year I asked you for donations for Feast of Fun, and I am doing so again this year.  Anything we give will be very much appreciated.  There will be a Special Collection in All Saints’ church on Sunday June 23, or you can give money directly to me.  It will be used well.
